Expeditions

Connecting to Land, People, Ocean & its Creatures

Curious by Nature

We are united by a deep and stubborn curiosity. We all dreamed of being explorers. Of discovering new species. Of becoming mermaids. Of being in nature, observing it, learning from it, being humbled by it. And we are united by a quiet rebellion, a shared refusal to accept that exploration must be extractive, that science must be transactional, or that the pursuit of a story justifies harm to the world being told.

This is why APE Expeditions exists. A group of devoted, kindred spirits who have dedicated their lives to the ocean - here to collaborate, to share the beauty of what lives beneath the surface, and to take care of one another in the field.

Between us, we carry decades of experience across the cenotes of Mexico, the reefs of Raja Ampat, the waters of Myanmar, Thailand, Australia and oceans beyond - including eleven years in these specific waters. We bring all of it forward in genuine support of the work that matters.

The Way We Move

We carry safety and care as our foremost priorities. We use the latest technology where it serves us... Shearwater computers, Tecline equipment, Bauer-certified pure air through local partners... and we adapt to local ways where needed. We never mistake access for ownership.

This is not our land. These waters have their custodians. Before we step in, we sit with the communities who live here, introduce ourselves, and listen. That is not formality. It is the foundation of everything that follows.

We source locally wherever possible, support the local economy through our partnerships and procurement, and invest in the next generation of Timorese scientists, field researchers, and ocean professionals who will, in time, lead this work from within the very communities it serves.

What We Bring

APE Expeditions supports scientists, documentary filmmakers, artists, philanthropists, and exploration teams working within Timor-Leste's marine environments. A country where infrastructure for serious marine fieldwork is still developing, and where the right local partner makes the difference between a successful expedition and a costly one.

Our team includes experienced field divers, marine biologists, underwater photographers, and safety personnel capable of supporting complex operations in remote coastal environments. We handle the planning, logistics, permits, safety architecture, and local relationships, so that the people we work with can focus entirely on the work itself.

We won't be dropping you at a location and wishing you well - we will be in the water with you.

Three ways to work together

Three pathways. One philosophy.

Scientific:

Field support for researchers, marine biologists, and conservation teams. We bring operational capability, safety infrastructure, and local knowledge that allows science to happen in one of the least documented marine environments on Earth.

Productions:

Support for documentary filmmakers, photographers, and storytellers. We bring years of knowledge of these waters - the light, the creatures, the rhythms of this particular ocean - and an unwavering commitment to their wellbeing over the shot.

Tailored:

For those who want to slow down and go deeper. Philanthropists, curious travellers, and anyone with a goal that doesn't fit a standard itinerary. We build around what matters to you, and we bring everything we know about this place to make it meaningful.

If you are as curious as we are - we are ready to explore alongside you.
